Before you feed

·         Feed by weight—not by volume.

·         Weigh the feed in the container you will be using and be sure to subtract the weight of the container.

Feeding Instructions

Feed according to the charts below.

HORSES

(Per 100 lbs. of Bodyweight)

Maintenance

1/4 to 1/2 lb

Light Exercise

1/2 to 3/4 lb

Medium Exercise

3/4 to 1 lb.

Heavy Exercise

1 to 1-1/4 lbs.

Gestating Mares

3/4 lb.

Lactating Mares

3/4 to 1-1/4 lbs.

Breeding Stallions

1 lb.

 

·         Feed with good quality pasture or with hay equivalent to 1 to 1-3/4 lbs. Per 100 lbs. of bodyweight.

·         Use a weight tape or Body Condition Score System to monitor body condition.  Adjust feeding levels to maintain desired condition.

·         Cool out properly after exercise before feeding or allowing unlimited water.

 

CATTLE

 

Beef Cattle

Feed to desired condition

Calves & Show Cattle

1 to 2 lbs. per 100 lbs. of bodyweight

Lactating Cows

1 lb. For every 3 to 4 lbs. of milk produced

Dairy Cattle

1 to 1-1/4 lbs.

 

·         Feed with good quality hay or pasture.

Calves & Show Cattle

·         Gradually bring feeding rate to 1 to 2 lbs per 100 lbs. of bodyweight.  Feed good quality hay free choice.

Dairy Cattle

·         Feed 1 to 5 lbs. per head per day with good quality hay for calves over 3 months.

Lactating Cows

·         Formulate lactating rations according to phase of lactation and desired production levels.

SHEEP AND GOATS

Lambs & Small Ewes

1/2 to 1-1/2 lbs.
